What is a phobia?
A phobia is a strong and irrational fear of a specific situation or object, such as flying, heights, animals, needles, dental visits or confined spaces.
The fear is out of proportion to the actual danger. You often know that there is nothing dangerous, yet the body still reacts with anxiety or panic.
Many begin to avoid what triggers the fear, which can limit both everyday life and holidays.
Common symptoms of phobias
Some people experience symptoms already at the thought of the situation, even without being in it.
The reaction is not under conscious control. It arises automatically, even though you know there is no real danger.
Common symptoms may include:
- Heart palpitations or pressure in the chest
- Shortness of breath or hyperventilation
- Sweating or trembling
- Dizziness or nausea
- A feeling of panic or loss of control
- A strong urge to escape
Phobias are not logical
Many experience that the fear arises without warning.
Phobias are often linked to past experiences or situations that the body still associates with danger.
This can mean that certain places, objects or situations automatically trigger a strong reaction, without you being able to control it.
In an online hypnosis session, we work on changing the way the body reacts.
When the automatic response changes, many find that situations that previously felt impossible become much calmer and more manageable.
It’s not about pushing yourself through the fear, but about helping the body respond in a new and more appropriate way.
A safe and calm process
I set aside 90 minutes for a session, so there is plenty of time. You should set aside up to 2 hours, in case we run a little over.
We begin with a conversation where you describe your phobia and the situations that trigger it. We focus on how the phobia is experienced in the body.
The hypnosis itself is a collaboration between you and me. During hypnosis, you will be in a very relaxed state. You remain awake, aware, and in full control at all times.
To be able to change the phobia, you will briefly be in contact with the physical reaction during hypnosis.
However, many people experience a sense of relief and calm already during the session.
Afterwards, we prepare you for the next time you are in a situation where you can notice the effect of the session.
How many sessions do I need?
A treatment for specific phobias is typically short. Many reach their goal with one session, and more than two sessions are rarely necessary.
This assumes we are working with one specific phobia, such as flying, needles, dental visits or heights.
If the phobia is part of a larger issue, or if several different fear elements are involved, a slightly longer process may be needed.
My experience
My experience is that most people notice a clear difference already after the first session.
My goal is always that you achieve a real and lasting change as quickly as possible.
So if you are motivated to let go of your phobia, there is a good chance that we will reach your goal quickly.
Afternoons and on weekends
I offer sessions on weekdays after 5 PM and on weekends. All times are stated in Central European Time (CET), Denmark.
